Man found floating in Hempstead Harbor ID’d, cops say
Nassau County police have identified the body of a man found in the water at the mouth of Hempstead Harbor, a spokeswoman said.
Homicide Squad detectives have identified him as Ralph G. Fletcher III, 58, police said Monday night.
His body was found June 9 and was recovered later from Hempstead Harbor by marine bureau officers. The discovery came close to a week after a search for a boater who had been reported missing.
Watch standers at Coast Guard Sector New York had been notified of a grounded 21-foot boat in Sands Point with a live dog aboard, according to the Coast Guard news release.
Several personal items belonging to Fletcher were found aboard, including his cellphone, wallet and keys.
