Roosevelt Field Macy's reopens after electrical fire
The Macy's department store at the Roosevelt Field mall department store was evacuated for two hours Tuesday afternoon after a small electrical fire started in the basement, the store's spokesman said.
Smoke traveled up to the store's second floor, he said, so shoppers and workers were ordered out. The Garden City mall, where Macy's is one of several anchors, was not evacuated, he said.
Nassau police said the fire started about 4:20 p.m. and no injuries have been reported.
The fire was under control by 5 p.m., the spokesman said, and smoke was being vented outside. The store was back in business after fire investigators cleared it at 6:20 p.m., he said.
