Seaford schools back to normal routine Tuesday after social media threat, officials say

Classes and after-school activities will proceed as normal in the Seaford school district Tuesday, a day after Nassau police stepped up their presence in the wake of a weekend threat to the high school, officials said.

District officials sent out a notice Monday night saying: "The District has been collaborating with the Nassau County Police Department.  There is no credible threat to Seaford Schools.  All afternoon activities will take place today and the schools will resume normal schedules tomorrow. Thank you for your patience."

The notice to the community followed a day of concern about student, faculty and staff safety. On Monday, Nassau police determined that schools were "deemed safe for staff and students to return," and that Seventh Precinct officers "are at every Seaford school." School officials had imposed a two-hour start time delay as a result of a threat made on the social media app, Snapchat.

For Tuesday, though, that delay will be lifted and classes will proceed on a normal schedule. Police presence, increased for Monday, will be scaled back to normal, Nassau police said.
