A Floral Park man was arrested Friday, after police said he used a gun to rob a New Hyde Park gas station of cash and cigarettes.

Michael Tolan, 24, of Barwick Street, allegedly entered the BP gas station on Hillside Avenue at 8 a.m. Friday, displayed a black handgun and demanded cash and four packs of cigarettes from a 52-year-old male employee, Nassau police said.

The victim complied, surrendering an undisclosed amount of cash, and Tolan fled on foot east on Hillside Avenue, police said. The employee was not injured.

An officer from Nassau's Third Precinct, responding to the scene, observed a man matching the suspect's description on Hillside Avenue near North 5th Street. Tolan was arrested without incident, and authorities recovered the proceeds of the robbery.

Tolan, who faces a charge of first-degree robbery, is to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
