Violinist Jacqueline Levine recently received news that was music to her ears.
The Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School senior is the inaugural recipient of the Isaac Stern String Scholarship from the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts in Wheatley Heights.
The scholarship -- funded by a grant from the Linda and Isaac Stern Charitable Foundation in Washington, D.C. -- covers tuition for a full summer of study at Usdan.
Levine, 18, said she was offered the scholarship by Usdan executive director Dale Lewis following her recent audition for a music staff summer internship at the center.
Asked about her passion for performing, Levine said music "gives me an outlet. I enjoy being able to express myself through playing."
Levine said she has studied violin at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City for three years and was named to the 2011 All-State Orchestra, where she held one of the principal chairs. She has attended festivals at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute and Aspen Music Festival in Colorado.
Levine is president of her school's Tri-M Music Honor Society, as well as a member of the student newspaper, Model UN Club, and National, French and Science honor societies.
