A New Hyde Park man was arrested and charged Sunday after his SUV struck a 74-year-old pedestrian who died at the scene in Williston Park on Saturday night.

David Bernardi, 29, was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday. He was charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while ability impaired by drugs, Nassau police said.

The woman, whose identity has not been released by police, was crossing Hillside Avenue southbound near Broad Street about 8:30 p.m. when a Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound hit her, police said. She suffered multiple trauma injuries and died at the scene.

Police said Bernardi stayed at the scene.
