A 55-year-old woman was threatened by gunpoint Sunday morning in Freeport by a man who then drove off with her car, Nassau County police said.

The woman had gotten into her Toyota Matrix and had parked behind her apartment building on Broadway, when a man approached holding a gold-colored handgun, police said.

He demanded the woman leave the car and then took the vehicle, driving it northbound on Harding Place, police said.

The car was found unoccupied within three hours in Hempstead by Hempstead Police a short time later, Nassau police said.

The woman's pocketbook, left in the car, had been stolen, police said. She was not hurt in the incident, police said.

The suspect was described as being between 16 years old and 18 years old, thinly built and wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans.

Detectives on Sunday asked that anyone with information about incident contact Nassau Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
