An 82-year-old man died after a single-car crash in Woodbury on Friday night in which the driver slammed into a wooden utility pole.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, “accidentally left the roadway” while behind the wheel of a 2015 Honda Accord going eastbound on Woodbury Road across from Verna Way around 10:20 p.m. and the car struck the pole, Nassau County Police said in a news release.

The driver and his two passengers, Jaffer Abdulrazak, of Woodbury, and a woman, 54, were all taken to a hospital for treatment to their injuries, police said. Abdulrazak died shortly after midnight, police said.

A police spokeswoman said the occupants of the vehicle are family members, but it’s unclear how they are related.

Homicide detectives are investigating the crash, said police, who labeled the accident “non-criminal.”
