2 pedestrians struck: man killed, teen critical in separate Long Island crashes
Two pedestrians were struck, one fatally, in separate Long Island crashes Monday night.
Shortly after 11 p.m. in Inwood, a male pedestrian was struck by a southbound 2004 Ford Explorer on Sheridan Boulevard near Nassau Avenue, Nassau police said.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. His name is being withheld awaiting notification of the man's family.
The driver of the Ford remained at the scene. An investigation is ongoing, police said.
A few hours earlier, about 9:10 p.m. in North Amityville, a 17-year-old was walking across New Highway at the intersection of Pine Road when he was struck by a southbound 2007 Toyota Prius.
The teen, of North Amityville, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital for treatment of critical injuries, Suffolk police said.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured and remained at the scene.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
