LIRR trains delayed as police investigate person struck near Farmingale station

Several trains were delayed Tuesday night as a result of a police investigation after a person was hit by a Long Island Rail Road train in Farmingdale, officials said.

At 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, the 7:11 p.m. train from Penn Station headed to Ronkonkoma hit the person just west of the Farmingdale station near Clinton Street.

People aboard that train were being evacuated about 10:30 p.m., said Marjorie Anders, an LIRR spokeswoman. She said another train had pulled alongside the one involved in the fatal strike and passengers were being transferred to it.

Once that second train departed, she said, some of the six to eight trains delayed for hours could be allowed to travel.

Anders said buses were being used to transport LIRR passengers who had no other alternatives. She said trains were delayed at stations, so most passengers were able to find alternative ways home.
