Frank Scaturro, a conservative New Hyde Park Republican who three times ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House in Nassau County, has returned to Washington as a lawyer for a controversial congressional committee probing Planned Parenthood.
Scaturro started in December as a special counsel to the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives. From 2005 to 2009 he was a counsel at the Senate Judiciary Committee, assisting in the confirmations of Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito. Scaturro is best known in local Republican circles for battling Nassau GOP chairman Joe Mondello over nominations to oppose former Democratic Rep. Carolyn McCarthy of Mineola.
