Campaign reports: Laura Curran has $1.3 million to Bruce Blakeman's $552,000

Incumbent Democrat Laura Curran has $1.3 million in cash to spend in the final month of her reelection bid for Nassau County executive, while Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman has $552,000, according to new campaign finance reports.

Blakeman, a Hempstead Town Council member, outraised Curran during the reporting period from July 11 to Sept. 27 — $625,501 to $459,451 — filings with the state Board of Elections show.

But Curran outspent Blakeman during the period — $1.22 million compared with $661,628 for Blakeman.

Curran, who is seeking a second four-year term, has a total of $1.349 million on hand, according to 32-day preelection campaign finance reports.

Blakeman, who served as presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature in the 1990s, has $551,655 to spend.

In the race for Nassau County District Attorney, State Sen. Todd Kaminsky (D-Long Beach) has $1.484 million on hand compared with Republican prosecutor Anne Donnelly's $41,933, new campaign filings show.

Kaminsky, a former federal prosecutor, raised $589,233 during the reporting period and spent $1,043,789.

Donnelly, a 32-year veteran of the Nassau DA's office who has never run for public office before, raised $386,407 and spent $344,474.

The fundraising by Curran and Kaminsky "demonstrates that there's a lot of confidence in both their campaigns from people who make the bets, so to speak," said Nassau and state Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs, referring to individual donors.

"If you look at the filings on the other side, there's a lot of movement of monies around from the Republican county committees to the candidates," Jacobs said.

The filings show Donnelly received $200,000 from the Nassau County Republican Committee, while the committee contributed $345,000 to Blakeman.

Nassau Republican chairman Joseph Cairo Jr. said in a statement to Newsday: "Both Bruce Blakeman and Anne Donnelly have numerous fundraisers scheduled and will have more than adequate resources to communicate their good government messages to the public."

The appointment of former Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas, a Democrat, to the State Court of Appeals in June triggered a special election for her replacement.

The winner on Nov. 2 will serve the final two years of Singas' term.

Curran's largest donations included $25,000 from husband John Curran, an attorney and former federal prosecutor, and $15,000 from Elaine Langone. Her husband, Ken Langone, is the billionaire co-founder of Home Depot.

Anthony Scaramucci, of Manhasset, who served as former President Donald Trump's press secretary for 11 days in 2017, gave $12,500 to Curran.

Blakeman's largest donation, $12,500, came from Fady Tanios, chief executive of Americas Executions, LLC, an investment bank.

Kaminsky's largest donations were $20,000 each from former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Ira. D Riklis, an Atlantic Beach businessman and philanthropist.

Donnelly's largest donation was $49,828 from billionaire Ron Lauder, a longtime contributor to Republican campaigns, including to numerous New York State Senate candidates in 2020.

In the race for Nassau County comptroller, Republican Elaine Phillips, a former state senator and mayor of Flower Hill, has a total of $241,092 on hand, according to her state reports. Democrat Ryan Cronin has a total of $153,379 on hand, according to state filings. Democratic incumbent comptroller Jack Schnirman is not seeking reelection.
