ALBANY — Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has forwarded three names for potential confirmation to the board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, according to a source:
- David S. Mack, of the Mack real estate family, and a former MTA Board member who was forced out in 2009 following an investigation led by then-state Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo. The probe wasn’t about the MTA, but rather Mack’s refusal to cooperate with Cuomo’s investigation of State Police when Mack was an honorary deputy superintendent. Mack also was turned down in 2013 for an MTA appointment.
- Patricia Ann McDonald, mayor of Malverne and widow of fallen NYPD officer Steven McDonald.
- Peter Florey, founder of the Levittown-based D&F Development Group and executive with the Long Island Builders Institute.
The State Senate could confirm one of the names to the board by Wednesday, the scheduled end of the 2018 state legislative session, although it could spill over to Thursday or Friday.
The new Nassau representative on the MTA Board would replace John Molloy, who joined the board in 2013 after being recommended by former County Executive Edward Mangano.
Interviewed Friday, Molloy, the former chief executive of H2M, an engineering firm, said the decision to step down from the board was his own.
“I think it was just time to start moving on. At my age it seems like the right time to do it,” Molloy, 72, of Wantagh, said. “And it was an opportunity for them to get some newer talent.”
