Details released on Hofstra gubernatorial debate
ALBANY - One hundred tickets to Monday's gubernatorial debate at Hofstra University are being made available to the public through a random drawing, the organizers said Wednesday.
People wishing to be in the audience for the first debate among all seven candidates running for governor should register at hofstra.edu/2010debate. The registration deadline is Friday at 9 a.m. and winners will be notified thereafter.
The debate, which runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m., will be held in Hofstra's David S. Mack Sports & Exhibition Complex. It accommodates an audience of about 1,000 people.
News12 Networks, Newsday and Hofstra also announced Wednesday additional broadcast outlets that will air the debate live across the state. They are News12 Hudson Valley and Time Warner Cable's NY1 News, NY1 Noticias and YNN, and National Public Radio stations.
The debate will be broadcast live on News12 Long Island, News12 Westchester, News12 The Bronx and News12 Brooklyn. It also will be available online at news12.com, newsday.com, ny1.com and ny1noticias.com. Viewers can comment in real time on a new Facebook page, facebook.com/raceforgovernor.
The candidates will be questioned by three moderators: Doug Geed of News12 Long Island, Newsday columnist Joye Brown and Brian Conybeare of News12 Westchester and Hudson Valley. The organizer said all the candidates will answer the same questions with equal and specified time. Some questions will allow for a brief rebuttal from all the candidates.
Some of the questions will come from the audience and residents interviewed across the state.
The candidates participating are: Andrew Cuomo, Democratic, Working Families and Independence parties; Carl Paladino, Republican, Conservative and Taxpayers parties; Howie Hawkins, Green Party; Warren Redlich, Libertarian Party; Charles Barron, Freedom Party; Kristin Davis, Anti-Prohibition Party, and Jimmy McMillan, Rent Is 2 Damn High Party.
Thus far, no other debates have been announced.
