BACKGROUND

  • Ra, 42, of Garden City, is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election and is seeking his eighth term in the State Assembly. 
  • He was a deputy town attorney in Hempstead Town and was a legal aide for the office of the New York State Attorney General.
  • Ra is a graduate of Loyola College, St. John’s University School of Law and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

ISSUES

  • Ra said affordability and the cost of living are important issues, and he wants to push to get the state’s spending in line with its revenues to control the growth of budget spending.
  • He said that if reelected he would reexamine policies on public safety to make tougher laws on issues such as arresting younger people on gun crimes to hold them accountable.
  • Ra said he has focused on special education funding and opportunities while in office and would want to continue providing such opportunities for students.
