BACKGROUND

  • LaLota, 46, of Amityville, is running on the Republican Party line in the general election and is seeking his second term in Congress. 
  • He was previously chief of staff to the Republican presiding officer of the Suffolk County Legislature and is the former Republican commissioner for the Suffolk County Board of Elections.
  • LaLota graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and has a law degree and an MBA from Hofstra University.

ISSUES

  • Lowering the cost of living is a top priority for LaLota. He said he has worked to restore the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction and supports expanding the child tax credit. 
  • Public safety is another important issue for LaLota, who said he is focused on securing the U.S. border and is committed to supporting U.S. allies..
  • LaLota also said he is focused on local issues and pointed to his work supporting the inclusion of $676 million for the World Trade Center Health Program in the 2023 defense and national security bill.
