BACKGROUND

• Stern, 55, of Dix Hills, is seeking his third full term after being elected in a special election in 2018. He served six terms as a Suffolk County legislator.
• Stern studied political science at Tulane University and earned his law degree at Western Michigan University’s Cooley Law School.
• He is an attorney and had been an adjunct professor at Touro Law Center.

ISSUES

• Stern said his top priority is to fight the impact of inflation by working on cutting the tax rate for the middle class and local small businesses. 
• Stern said he opposes bail reform for public safety reasons and will continue to fight against state funding for migrants that has no guardrails on how it will be used.
• He said he would continue to protect Long Island’s drinking water supply with funding for sewer infrastructure repairs to protect vulnerable areas from climate change and to build environmental resiliency.
