Nassau's Jay Jacobs on way back as state Democratic chairman
Jay Jacobs is on his way back as state Democratic Party chairman.
Jacobs, the Nassau County Democratic chairman, has been recommended by the governor to take the post he held from 2009-12. Though it awaits a formal vote of the state Democratic Committee, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo controls the state party apparatus and his recommendation means the appointment of Jacobs is practically a done deal.
“I appreciate the governor’s confidence and I’m looking forward to working with him and the [state] Legislature,” Jacobs told Newsday shortly after Cuomo's announcement Monday.
Jacobs would replace Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown as party chair. Jacobs has been Nassau Democratic chairman since 2001.
