Newsday/Siena poll of Long Islanders on Equal Rights Amendment, transgender athlete ban, Trump trial and more
A recent survey of more than 500 Long Islanders found strong support for a proposed “Equal Rights Amendment” to the state constitution that would enshrine abortion rights and establish bans on discrimination based on several factors, including ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity. However, survey respondents also supported a Nassau official’s attempt to bar transgender athletes from girls’ sports.
Siena College, in conjunction with Newsday, surveyed 504 registered voters from May 13-15. The poll also found support for restricting addictive social media feeds to minors and paying higher power bills to support energy transition.
A majority of Long Islanders surveyed also say the outcome of Donald Trump’s criminal trial won’t change their opinion of him one way or another.
They also strongly oppose the notion of making gun owners deputies in Nassau County in emergency situations.
Here are the full results of the poll. (The poll has a margin of error of 5.9 percentage points, meaning answers could be that much higher or lower.)
