4 people shot at Rocky Point bar
Early morning gunfire Saturday at Oxygen, a dance club in Rocky Point, wounded three women and a man and, according to a videotape of the aftermath, sent dozens of people fleeing from the club.
Suffolk police are still investigating the shooting. They said officers went to the scene at 3:31 a.m. after receiving a call about multiple gunshots. The victims were taken to hospitals with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said it was unclear whether the shooting happened inside or outside the club, at 621 Broadway.
Suffolk police Sgt. John Best said people in the club fled from the gunfire, but he said police did not know how many had been inside at the time.
A video taken by a security camera at Tilda's Bakery, across Route 25A from the club, showed dozens of young people pouring out of the club, with many darting into the street seemingly oblivious to traffic. The video does not show the shooter.
Tilda's owner Edward Maher, who played the video for a reporter, said one young woman ran to his bakery for refuge. "She said they were dancing and there was music, then all of a sudden somebody comes shooting, and we ran," said Maher, whose bakery was operating at the time.
The club's owner, Robert "Bobby" Gerson, said a fight broke out and security guards escorted at least one person from the property. "A short time later, the guy came back and started shooting [the club] up," Gerson said.
Police said two women were shot in the leg and the third was shot in the foot. All three were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center by ambulance. The man was shot in the foot and his torso was grazed by a bullet. He was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital by a friend and later transported to Stony Brook Memorial Hospital.
Gerson said the club wasn't to blame for yesterday morning's violence. He said he had 10 licensed security guards on the premises Friday night. Police said they did not immediately know whether there had been past incidents at the club.
The 18-and-over club's Facebook page said rapper Waka Flocka Flame was scheduled to appear Friday night.
