Roy Mathes, 52, and his dog struck and killed by vehicle in Amityville, cops say
An Amityville man out walking his dog was fatally struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning in a crash that also killed the canine, police said.
Roy Mathes, 52, was walking his dog at the intersection of Broadway and Louden Avenue at about 6:30 a.m. when he was hit by a 1999 Acura traveling north on Broadway, police said in a press release.
He was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead. The dog died at the crash scene.
The driver of the Acura, a 47-year-old Amityville man, was not injured.
The Acura was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information can contact First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152.
