A Bay Shore couple died after their vehicle struck a tree Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

“Travis Hairston, 75, of Bay Shore, was driving a 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis northbound on Fifth Avenue when her vehicle apparently left the roadway, crashed through a chain link fence and struck a tree on the lawn of a house at the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and Hansen Street at approximately 4:10 p.m.,” police said in a release.

Hairston and her husband, Frank Hairston, 81, of Bay Shore, were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore by the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Ambulance. Both victims died from their injuries, police said.
