A burned bagel that set off a fire alarm led to Islip Town Hall being evacuated just before 1:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Sirens went off inside the building as well as flashing lights. A recorded message declared "there has been an emergency reported in the building" and provided instructions to leave the building through staircases and not elevators.

People were allowed back in the building a few minutes later.

A town board meeting is scheduled to be held at 2 p.m.
