A missing spearfishing scuba diver was found dead in the Long Island Sound off Cutchogue Tuesday evening, but his death is not being considered suspicious, police said.

Southold Town police said the body of Carl Joseph Czajkowski, 66, of South Jamesport, was recovered after he was reported overdue from a spearfishing dive.

The search team included Southold police, bay constables and members of the Cutchogue Fire Department, police said. Police said Czajkowski was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was not immediately clear what time Czajkowski had entered the water -- or how long he had been missing.

His body was found near the end of Duck Pond Road at about 7 p.m., police said.

Police said the cause of death is under investigation by the Suffolk County medical examiner's office, but that the death is not considered suspicious.
