Fireworks eyed in Centereach house fire, chief says
Fire officials are investigating a report that fireworks shot through a bedroom window started a fire that largely consumed the second floor of a home in Centereach on Saturday.
The Centereach Fire Department was called to the home on Arbor Lane about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, Chief Robert Corley said.
Firefighters discovered virtually the entire second floor engulfed in flames, he said.
The occupants of the home, including some children, escaped without injury, he added.
Firefighters also rescued the household’s dog and cat. The fire was brought under control in about a half-hour, he said.
Corley said the fire remained under investigation, and that the cause had not yet been determined.
