A pit bull attacked four people at a private dog-care facility in Ronkonkoma Thursday night, sending all four by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of bites to their arms and legs, Suffolk police said.

A 1- to 2-year-old male dog named Gino had been housed at the Hounds Town USA facility on Garrity Avenue for about two weeks, police said, when it was let out of its cage at about 7:30 p.m. to relieve itself.

The dog then attacked three employees and one customer before it was returned to its cage, police said.

None of the injuries to the four women, ages 21, 22, 24 and 44, are considered life-threatening, police said. They were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.

The Hounds Town website describes itself as "a dog daycare and training facility which caters to private pet owners."

Michael S. Gould, the owner of Hounds Town locations in Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale and a retired Nassau County police canine unit commanding officer, said proper procedures were followed with the dog, and there was no apparent reason why it attacked the four women.

This is also a Hounds Town location in Port Jefferson that has a different owner.

This story has been changed to clarify the ownership of the Hounds Town in Port Jefferson.
