A Bay Shore man violated Leandra's Law when he was driving drunk with his two children as passengers Saturday on the Sagtikos State Parkway in Brentwood, State Police said Monday.

Kevin Bowie, 40, registered a breath-analyzer reading of .28 percent -- more than three times the legal limit -- after troopers pulled him over for swerving and failing to maintain his lane on the parkway at 9:17 p.m., troopers said.

Bowie's two children, a boy, age 6, and a girl, 7, were inside his black BMW, troopers said.

Bowie is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The children were released to a family member, and Child Protective Services was notified, according to a State Police spokesman.

His arraignment information at First District Court in Hempstead was not immediately available.

The law was passed in 2009 after the death of Leandra Rosado, 11, who was killed in an DWI accident after the minivan in which she was a passenger crashed on West Side Highway in Manhattan.
