Cops: Northport woman DWI in Centerport crash
A Northport woman was arrested and charged with drunken driving after an early morning accident that knocked down a utility pole and seriously injured a male passenger in her sport utility vehicle Thursday in Centerport, police said.
Suffolk County police said Elizabeth Damilatis, 25, of 106 Middleville Rd., was charged with driving while intoxicated after the crash on East Main Street at 3:51 a.m.
The male passenger, Thomas Martin, 36, of Finch Place, Huntington, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Police said he was listed in critical condition.
Police said Damilatis was driving her 2011 Volvo westbound on East Main when she lost control, striking the utility pole on the north side of the road. The crash closed East Main, also known as Route 25A, in both directions between Lone Oak Drive and Cherry Lane, a stretch of almost a mile.
Police said the road was closed after the crash as emergency crews worked to repair the pole. The road reopened about 11:30 a.m., according to the state Department of Transportation website.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.
Damilatis was scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
