Cops seek suspect in Riverhead bank damage
Riverhead police on Tuesday asked the public's help identifying the person who they said damaged a bank's night-deposit box last month while trying to pry it open with a crowbar.
The person wore what appeared to be a ski hat, a bandanna over the face, a long-sleeved shirt and gloves. Surveillance photos show a person, who police said entered the rear parking lot of a Suffolk County National Bank branch on Ostrander Avenue in Riverhead at about 11:15 p.m. Aug. 18, a Saturday.
"The subject approached the night time deposit box and, using a crow bar, tried to pry it open. The box, which was valued at approximately $8,000, was damaged during this incident," the police said in an alert issued by Crime Stoppers of Suffolk County.
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to make a confidential call to 800-220-TIPS.
