Police seek tractor trailer that fled Melville crash
An East Meadow man and two Florida women were seriously injured when a tractor trailer crashed into their car at an intersection in Melville early Friday, then fled the scene, Suffolk police said.
The crash happened on the North Service Road and Walt Whitman Road at about 2:25 a.m. Friday.
Police said the truck, headed west on the service road, struck the car, a black 2002 Saturn, which was northbound on Walt Whitman Road.
Three people in the car -- driver Andrew Shikora, 24, of East Meadow; Julie Moore, 21, of Florida; and another Florida woman whose identity was not released -- were taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow with what police called serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The conditions of the three were not available.
Police are searching for the tractor trailer, which investigators said has "possible front-end damage," and are asking anyone with information to call Second Squad detectives at 631-854-8252 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
