Cops: Selden man arrested in wrong-way DWI crash

One person was taken to a hospital with serious injures Sunday morning after a two-car crash on Route 347 in Smithtown, Suffolk County police said. A Selden man was arrested on Sunday and charged with driving while intoxicated after he drove the wrong way on a Smithtown road and struck another vehicle, seriously injuring two people, Suffolk County police said.
Police said Pedro Hernandez, 24, was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry east in the westbound lanes of Route 347 in Smithtown about 5:30 a.m. when he crashed head-on into a 2006 Toyota Corolla.
The driver of the Corolla, Reyna Pena, 52, and her passenger, Lorenzo Rodriguez, 53, received serious injuries and were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
Hernandez also was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Hernandez, of 394 Dare Rd., was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Police said he will be arraigned at a later date.
