Police responding to an early morning call Thursday reporting shots fired in Central Islip said they recovered a gun and took a suspect into custody.

Suffolk County police have not yet charged the suspect.

Police said the 911 call reporting shots fired on Fig Street was received at about 1:40 a.m.

They said that responding officers "located a male" and "took him into custody."

Police did not say what type of gun was recovered.

The investigation is continuing Thursday. It is not believed anyone was struck by gunfire.
