Driver in serious condition after East Farmingdale crash, cops say

The condition of a Massapequa man who police said was critically injured in a motor vehicle crash Saturday in East Farmingdale, has been upgraded to serious, Suffolk County police said.
Police said the accident happened at about 3:15 a.m. when Michael Schunk was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe south on Route 110, south of Conklin Avenue, and his vehicle struck the rear of a southbound tractor trailer at a traffic light.
Schunk, 52, was airlifted by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
Police said the driver of the tractor trailer, Paul Danoski, 55, of Islip, was not injured.
The SUV was impounded for a safety check and the Motor Carrier Safety Section conducted a safety check on the tractor trailer, police said, adding that the investigation is continuing.
