Authorities: Driver killed in head-on crash in Wading River
A Jeep driver died after a head-on crash with a box truck in Wading River Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The truck was going west on Route 25A and the Jeep was eastbound when they collided at about 3:30 p.m. near Dogwood Drive, said Wading River Fire Department Chief Kevin McQueeney.
The truck driver was not hurt, authorities said.
Lanes in both directions were closed until 9 p.m., and state police were dispatched to helped reconstruct the accident and inspect the truck.
The Jeep had veered into the truck's lane, and the cause of the crash is being investigated, state police said.
The front of the Jeep was crushed, and McQueeney said about 15 Wading River firefighters helped extricate the male driver.
The truck belongs to Southern Wine and Spirits in Syosset. Efforts to reach officials there and at the company's headquarters in Florida were unsuccessful Monday evening. The company spokesman also could not be reached at his home.
Other details, including the name of the Jeep driver, were not available Monday night.
