A man was high on drugs Wednesday when he ran a red light in Deer Park, crashed into a minivan and then ran away from the accident scene, Suffolk County police said.

Police said they were able to track down Duquan Faulk, 21, a short time after he ran a light at the intersection of Deer Park and Long Island avenues at about 10:30 p.m.

Police also said they found a loaded handgun in Faulk’s 2016 Chevrolet Malibu; the gun had been reported stolen in Virginia.

Faulk, of 314 Fulton St., West Babylon, was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property, driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.

Faulk was driving west on Long Island Avenue when went through “a steady red traffic light” and struck a 2006 Dodge caravan that was traveling south on Deer Park Avenue, police said.

After the crash, “Faulk exited the vehicle and fled on foot,” police said in a news release.

The driver of the van was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with non-life-threatening injuries.

Faulk is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
