Farmingdale State student hit, killed crossing street, say cops

A 24-year-old Farmingdale State College student was struck by a car and killed Thursday night as he crossed a road that runs adjacent to campus, Suffolk County police said.

Eyyad Almargi, of Yonkers, was struck by a westbound 2003 Saturn as he crossed Melville Road, west of Route 110, at 9:20 p.m., police said.

Police said Almargi was taken by a Farmingdale fire department ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, where he was pronounced dead.

Almargi was a full-time resident student in his junior year, according to the college. He was majoring in construction-management technology at the School of Engineering Technology, college spokesman Patrick Calabria said.

"Resident students are being counseled, and the counseling center is open for all students," Calabria said.

The driver of the car, identified by police as Albert Perrone, 45, of Farmingdale, was not injured.

Police said the car was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. No charges were filed.

It was not immediately clear where Almargi was headed when he was hit.
