A 35-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a motorcycle crash in Hampton Bays, police said.

Darwin E. Monsalve Vargas, of Hampton Bays, was traveling on North Road when he crashed at about 5:55 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Southampton Town police said Wednesday.

Police did not release details of the crash in a news release, other than to say it involved a single motorcycle. The road was closed for about two hours for the investigation, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at 631-728-5000.

Long Island police have reported that 27 people were killed in motorcycle crashes in 2023 and 15 were killed in 2024, according to a Newsday analysis of fatal traffic crashes.
