The scene of a fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday night in Medford. Credit: /Joseph Sperber

Two crashes 12 hours apart Wednesday night and Thursday morning left one motorcyclist dead and another motorcyclist seriously injured, according to Suffolk County police.

In the first crash, Hasani Martin-Rathan, 27, of Brentwood, was northbound on a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle about 8:30 p.m. on North Ocean Avenue in Medford when he collided with a southbound 2018 Ford van that was making a left onto Cedar Avenue, police said.

Martin-Rathan was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, police said. 

The driver of the van was not injured. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks, police said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8542.

At about 8:30 a.m. Thursday another motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in Deer Park, police said. 

According to a police news release, a 25-year-old Deer Park man was riding a 2022 Kawasaki motorcycle south on Deer Park Avenue when his bike collided with a northbound 2017 Jeep Wrangler making a left turn onto Long Island Avenue.

The motorcyclist was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, police said. The 45-year-old driver of the Jeep was not injured.
