Fire damages downtown Huntington insurance brokerage

A fire consumed part of an insurance brokerage in Huntington on Saturday, according to the Huntington Fire Department.

The blaze started in an outdoor storage container behind a structure at 30 Prospect St. about 3:45 p.m., according to the department.

The fire spread to the attic and ceiling area of the building, which houses Waldorf Risk Solutions.

More than 50 firefighters from departments in Huntington, Halesite and Huntington Manor fought the fire, which was under control within an hour, according to the Huntington department.

The attic sustained fire damage, with the rest of the building incurring smoke and water damage, the department said. No one was injured, and authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.

The department said it was the fifth fire in the Huntington village area since March.

Earlier this month, a fire broke out near a Huntington cafe on Wall Street. Two restaurants -- one on Main Street, the other on Wall Street -- caught fire in May, and several stores on New York Avenue burned in March.

But Chief Robert Berry said there was no indication that any of the fires were connected.

"I don't think there's a pattern," he said Sunday. "We have had quite a few commercial fires, but we have had that before."
