Electrical power was temporarily cut to Fire Island early Sunday morning to help firefighters contain a house fire in the Pines section of the island, according to authorities.

Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services said they got a report of a residential fire on Cottage Walk about 12 minutes after midnight.

Fire Island Pines Volunteer Fire Department responded along with 11 other departments that rendered mutual aid.

The fire spread to a propane tank outside the home, which exploded from the heat and flames, according to Suffolk County fire authorities.

Firefighters put out the blaze at 2:05 a.m., an operator said, and there were no injuries. The building owners were not at home at the time, he said.

Fire marshals will arrive at the scene later Sunday morning to investigate the cause of the blaze. PSEG Long Island did not immediately respond to a call seeking information about the fire.
