A grenade was found in a Hampton Bays home's yard on Tuesday morning and Southampton police said they removed the device, which they deemed to be at no risk of explosion.
Around 10:30 a.m., a resident in the Argonne Road East area was cleaning their yard when they discovered the grenade in the rear of the house, Southampton police said.
Southampton police waited for Suffolk County Emergency Services to assist with the disposal of the grenade, police said. No evacuations were required.
The grenade, which had its pin in it and was hollowed out, was removed about 12:50 p.m., Det. Sgt. Gina Laferrera said.
In previous years, grenades and artifacts have washed up on the beach and in people’s homes, so this incident is not uncommon, she added. Grenades have been found to be live and inert, so if you find something, contact police, Laferrera said.
More information about the grenade was not immediately available.
