A Melville man was arrested Tuesday, charged with a shooting that took place two weeks ago on the Southern State Parkway at the border of East Farmingdale and North Lindenhurst, State Police said.

Arrested was Joe Nunez, who was arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on charges of first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was held on bail of $300,000 bond or $150,000 cash.

A statement from State Police initially indicated the shooting happened Tuesday.

Police said that on July 24, Nunez fired two shots from a handgun into another vehicle, striking a Brooklyn man once in the shoulder.

The other shot struck the driver's side door, police said. The identity of the victim was not released.

State Police senior investigator Thomas Hughes said the shooting was "not a random act," but was precipitated by a dispute that occurred off the parkway and was carried over onto the parkway.

He declined to specify the nature of the dispute, citing a continuing investigation.

He said the shooting occurred near the New Highway exit on the parkway.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact State Police in Valley Stream R 516-561-8492. All calls will be confidential, police said.
