Ridge man killed in early morning crash off LIE in Calverton
A driver was killed during rush hour Friday in Calverton in a crash near a ramp for the Long Island Expressway, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
He was later identified as Scott Mancusco, 48, of Ridge, the department wrote in a news release.
The crash, at 7:05 a.m., involved two vehicles, a 2023 Hyundai Elantra driven by Mancusco, and a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 24-year-old Darnell Chandler, the release said. Both men were alone in the vehicles, the police press office wrote in an email.
Chandler had been going southbound on Edwards Avenue when he struck Mancusco's vehicle while Mancusco was trying to turn left from the eastbound Long Island Expressway ramp at exit 71 to go north on Edwards Avenue.
Mancusco was pronounced dead; Chandler had minor injuries, the email said.
As of early Friday afternoon, Edwards Avenue northbound was closed.
The crash was under investigation.
