Lindenhurst man charged in string of break-ins
Suffolk County police said a Lindenhurst man has been charged in a string of burglaries in Lindenhurst and West Babylon during the past two weeks.
Police said Keith Doherty, 39, of North Clinton Avenue in Lindenhurst, was fleeing the scene on a bicycle when police arrested him early Tuesday.
Police said Doherty was charged with 10 counts of third-degree burglary for the break-ins, which mostly involved service stations.
The businesses Doherty is accused of burglarizing are: Midas in Lindenhurst on July 26 and July 27; Bedrock Landscaping, Al & Al Service Center and Express Lube, all in West Babylon, on Aug. 2; Pro Lube, Lakewood Used Auto Parts and Seven Brothers Service Station, all in West Babylon, on Aug. 4; and Lou's Tires and Midas in Lindenhurst on Tuesday. Police categorized all of the incidents as "smash-and-grab" burglaries.
Police said Doherty had just committed the last two burglaries when First Precinct Sgt. James Rafferty and officers Vincent Famularo, Brian Raleigh, Michael Lavella and Sean Murtha saw him fleeing on a bicycle on Green Avenue.
He is scheduled for arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, police said.
