A Lindenhurst man was arrested after a police pursuit Tuesday afternoon and charged with two burglaries that took place this week, Suffolk police said.

Police were called to 448 North Fulton Ave. in Lindenhurst about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after a neighbor who saw a man climb a fence and enter the home's yard called 911.

First Precinct Commanding Officer Gerard Gigante got to the scene first and saw the man entering the rear of the house, police said, but the suspect fled on foot. Gigante pursued him and with help from officers arriving on the scene, suspect Michael Novak, 25, was arrested.

A subsequent investigation by First Squad detectives determined Novak had committed an armed burglary at 566 South Broadway Ave. in Lindenhurst on Monday. In that incident, Novak confronted a house cleaner while armed with a knife, stealing cash, her cellphone and her car, police said.

Novak, of 736 South Walnut St., was charged with second-degree attempted burglary for Tuesday's incident and first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary for Monday's incident.

Novak is being held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
