$1M Powerball ticket sold in Deer Park, NY Lottery says
A $1 million Powerball ticket was bought in Deer Park on Monday, the New York Lottery said.
The second-prize ticket was bought from Deer Hills Service LLC on Deer Park Avenue, the lottery said.
The numbers in the main draw were 2, 27, 42, 44, 51 and the Powerball number: 25.
Islam Johirul, an assistant manager of a Sunoco station, said a customer bought the winning ticket Monday night but had not been in touch with the store Tuesday. It was unknown Tuesday night whether the winner had been in contact with lottery officials.
Winning numbers are drawn from a field of one to 69. The red Power Ball comes from a separate field of one to 26. These drawings are televised Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m.
The Powerball jackpot is an estimated $258 million with a $147.4 million cash payout, according to the lottery website. A jackpot is picking all five numbers and the Powerball number. Second prize winners pick the five numbers.
Last year, the state lottery says, it contributed $3.59 billion for education.
Johirul said winners are rare but some customers get so excited when a big jackpot is on the line that they buy him a ticket.
"The people playing, they give me a ticket," Johirul said, "but I never win. They say 'good luck,' but not yet."
