Man, 81, killed in multiple car crash in Coram

An 81-year-old Coram man was killed and another man was injured Monday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision on County Road 83, Suffolk County Police reported.

The victim, Salvatore Anselmo, was riding with Bennie Demaro, 86, in a 1994 Cadillac as they headed north on County Road 83 when their car was struck by a 1988 Mazda as it made a left turn onto Canal Road at 2:35 p.m., police said.

The Cadillac then struck a 2005 Dodge Magnum driven by Lauren Pedone, 53, of Port Jefferson Station, police said.

Anselmo was taken to John T. Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, where he was pronounced dead.

Demaro was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The driver of the Mazda pickup truck, Timothy Grady, 27, of East Patchogue, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Pedone and her 16-year-old son were not injured.

All vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing, officers said.
