About 60 firefighters from Huntington Manor, Huntington and Melville battled a house fire in the basement of a home in Huntington Station Wednesday night, and a man and a dog safely evacuated from the premises, fire officials said.

The Suffolk County police Arson Squad and Huntington Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire. Officials said the resident and dog were checked at the scene by the Huntington Community First Aid Squad and did not require further medical attention.

The fire took place at a home on Leyden Street at about 10:20 p.m. Officials said three engines, two ladder trucks and a heavy rescue truck also responded to the scene.
