Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and seriously injured a pedestrian Sunday night as he crossed Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Town.

The accident occurred just west of Manor Road about 9:30 p.m., near the Dix Hills-Elwood line, Suffolk County police said. Police said the victim, identified as Richard Wright, 31, of Huntington, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition with a broken leg, broken hip and head injuries.

Police said Wright was crossing northbound when he was struck by a car that was eastbound on Jericho. The vehicle, which police said is believed to be gray, fled the scene.

Detectives said the car likely has front-end damage.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Second Squad detectives at 631-854-8252 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
