Glen Eschbach named North Babylon schools superintendent

North Babylon has appointed a high-ranking administrator from Hauppauge schools as its next superintendent.

Glen A. Eschbach, 47, comes to the district with more than 20 years in education, the past eight as an assistant superintendent. He began his career as a special-education teacher before advancing to an administrative position at Bayport-Blue Point schools. Since July 2012, he has served as the assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and technology at Hauppauge.

"We are pleased to have Mr. Eschbach join the North Babylon family and assist our district in continuing to prepare our students for the future," board of education president Janet Meyerson said in a statement. "His dedication and enthusiasm for education are clear and are a strong representation of the type of leader we need."

At Hauppauge, Eschbach developed a long-term educational plan and prepared districtwide performance profiles, a North Babylon spokesman said in a release. He also led development of curriculum, technological initiatives and performance-based assessments. He also led development of the district's performance review plan for teachers and principals and assisted in staff screening and hiring.

Eschbach, who replaces Interim Superintendent of Schools Salvatore Carambia, holds both a bachelor of arts in psychology and a professional diploma in educational leadership from Stony Brook University, and a master of science in education from Dowling College.

His salary is $225,000 and his contract runs through 2018.

North Babylon, with 4,659 students, has a $113,647,710 budget.
